The Casual Oris Divers Sixty-Five – With a Fabric Strap
Oris Divers Sixty-Five With A Fabric Khaki Strap: Hands-On Review [01 733 7707 4064-07 5 20 22]
This is a review of my favourite Oris watch, but this time on a very sturdy fabric strap.
What’s to like?
This watch is currently my absolute favourite Oris watch at the moment (at the time of writing this article). It holds a design that has tried the tests of time and succeeded. This watch was originally released in, as you may have guessed, way back in 1965. Luckily when Oris relaunched this updated version they didn’t kill what made it so special; but, improved on it with modern manufacturing techniques and newer materials.
(I have previously reviewed this watch on a rubber ‘tropic’ strap and have photos of it on a metal bracelet that can be found from these links)
The Fabric Tang Buckle Strap
Oris have given the Divers Sixty-Five a plethora of different strap options to choose from. The boxed numeral versions come in:
- Black rubber ‘Tropic’
- Stainless steel bracelet with push – button clasp
- NATO/G10 fabric strap with a push – button folding clasp
- Fabric strap with tang buckle – extremely sturdy
And the edition with a dark blue dial, without the boxed numerals, is also available with a dark brown leather strap.
I cannot emphasise enough how stupendously tough this fabric strap from Oris is, made for the Divers Sixty-Five watch! The synthetic material used is very rigid and certainly built to last. I can’t think of many environments where the straps integrity may be challenged. Perhaps if you have a job as a chainsaw juggler or intend to use it on a zip-wire line, then maybe you might just break it. But realistically the spring bars for this watch will fail long before the strap will break.
The Oris’s strap material is rigid and holds its form well. There are two fixed metal stays and an additional floating one. The metal tang buckle has a brushed finish that goes well with the rugged tool watch feel, which should show age better than if it were polished. Because of the thickness of the strap’s material, it makes taking off the watch a little bit of a hassle; though, this no doubt will be fixed with some breaking in.
The Verdict
This is a charming watch with an iconic design that should endure for another 50 years. It’s a quality swiss mechanical watch at an affordable price point that has a unique design, which stands out. I wasn’t too keen on the khaki colour strap at first but with my short time reviewing it, it has grown on me. If I were to buy an Oris Divers Sixty-Five, it would be this version but with a black colour strap as the khaki colouring on this watch is less versatile with the environments it could be comfortably worn in.
